Device compatibility

BeeTV on Roku: Technically Impossible

Roku OS is not Android and cannot run BeeTV. What the channel-store model allows and what casting can and cannot do.

Last reviewed · Reviewed by the editorial team

Roku devices run Roku OS, a proprietary platform unrelated to Android. Android applications cannot be installed on Roku by any means available to consumers.

The channel model

Roku software is written in BrightScript and distributed as channels through Roku's own store. Private channels have been progressively restricted, and Roku enforces content-rights requirements on publishers. There is no sideloading path.

Screen mirroring is not installation

Roku supports screen mirroring from Windows and Android. Mirroring only relays a picture from another device — the app still runs elsewhere, quality drops and the legal position of what is being mirrored is unchanged.

Roku alternatives

  • The Roku Channel, Tubi, Pluto TV and Plex are all free and store-published.
  • Major subscription services all have native Roku channels.
